Gas Supply For Welding Shops
Running MIG and TIG equipment in the same shop can mean keeping several gases on hand. We supply individual cylinders and recurring orders for businesses using different welding processes. Whether you replace a cylinder occasionally or need several delivered each week, talk to us about available sizes and replenishment arrangements.
Welding Gases We Supply
Argon
We supply pure argon for TIG welding and MIG welding of aluminum. Argon provides an inert shield around the weld pool, protecting it from atmospheric contamination. Cylinders are available for purchase or rental, with refills and exchanges at our Scarborough location.
Carbon dioxide
CO₂ welding gas is used with compatible steel MIG wires and certain gas-shielded flux-cored wires. Pure CO₂ can produce more spatter than common argon/CO₂ mixtures, so the choice should follow the wire manufacturer’s requirements. We supply industrial CO₂ cylinders for welding, including refill and exchange options.
Argon/CO₂ welding mixtures
Our shielding-gas range includes C25, containing 75% argon and 25% CO₂, and C10, containing 90% argon and 10% CO₂. C25 is commonly used for short-circuit MIG welding of mild steel. C10 is an option for certain spray-transfer applications. The required blend depends on your wire, equipment and welding procedure.
Oxygen
We supply industrial oxygen for oxy-acetylene welding and related torch work, including cutting, brazing and heating. Oxygen supports combustion when used with a suitable fuel gas. Oxygen cylinders can be ordered alongside acetylene, with sizes and quantities checked for your equipment and expected usage.
Acetylene
Acetylene is the fuel gas used in oxy-acetylene welding. Welding shops also use it for cutting, heating and brazing during repair work. We supply acetylene cylinders and handle refill and exchange enquiries for customers using portable torch equipment or workshop setups.
Helium and argon/helium mixtures
Helium-containing shielding gases are used in welding procedures that require different arc-heating characteristics from pure argon. Applications can include thicker aluminum and other heat-conductive metals. We supply helium and argon/helium blends; send the specified composition when checking availability or requesting a quote.
Gases For Different Welding Applications
- MIG welding
For mild-steel MIG welding, common shielding gases include CO₂ and argon/CO₂ mixtures. The welding mode matters: a mixture used for short-circuit welding may differ from one specified for spray or pulsed welding.
We supply pure CO₂, C25 and C10 for the processes that call for them. When ordering for a new machine or changing wire, check the gas recommendation in the equipment instructions and consumable data sheet.
- TIG welding
TIG welding, also called gas tungsten arc welding or GTAW, commonly uses pure argon. The shielding gas protects the tungsten electrode and molten weld pool from the surrounding air.
Argon is used for TIG welding of steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Some procedures specify an argon/helium mixture. Keep the TIG gas specification separate from any argon/CO₂ mixture used for steel MIG work.
- Stainless steel and aluminum welding
Stainless-steel TIG welding commonly uses argon. Stainless-steel MIG welding requires a suitable shielding mixture selected for the wire and welding mode.
Aluminum MIG welding commonly uses pure argon, with argon/helium mixtures used for certain applications. When switching between metals on a multiprocess machine, check the gas requirement for each task. A mixture intended for mild-steel MIG welding may be unsuitable for the next material.
- Oxy-acetylene welding and repair work
Oxy-acetylene equipment uses oxygen and acetylene to produce the welding flame. The gases also support brazing, heating and cutting when used with equipment designed for those tasks. We supply both gases, so you can include your torch requirements in the same order as your shielding gases.
Request A Quote For Welding Gas Supply
Contact Welders Supply & Gases with your required gas or mixture, cylinder quantity and location. Let us know whether you need a refill, an exchange or a new cylinder, and whether you prefer pickup or delivery. Our team will check availability and prepare a quote.
Choosing The Right Welding Gas
Start with the process and the metal you are welding. For wire-fed welding, the wire classification and selected welding mode help determine the required shielding gas. A machine capable of several processes may need different gases for each one.
Once the gas is specified, consider how much you use and how often you can arrange replenishment. Include your current cylinder size when requesting a quote. A photograph of the cylinder label can also help identify the gas or mixture you have been ordering.
For work that specifies a particular gas grade or requires supporting documentation, mention those requirements before placing the order.
Which Gas Is Used For Each Welding Process?
Use the table below to prepare your inquiry. The gas you order should match your welding procedure, consumable requirements and equipment specifications.
| Welding Process | Commonly Used Gas |
|---|---|
| MIG welding of mild steel | CO₂ or an argon/CO₂ mixture matched to the wire and welding mode |
| TIG welding of steel, stainless steel or aluminum | Pure argon; argon/helium mixtures for selected applications |
| MIG welding of aluminum | Pure argon or an appropriate argon/helium mixture |
| MIG welding of stainless steel | A stainless-specific shielding mixture suited to the wire and equipment |
| Gas-shielded flux-cored welding | CO₂ or an approved shielding mixture, as specified for the wire |
| Oxy-acetylene welding | Oxygen and acetylene |

Gas Quality, Cylinder Information & Safety
Check the cylinder label to identify its contents. Cylinder colour alone should not be used to identify a gas. Read the Safety Data Sheet for the gas or mixture, and follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and applicable workplace requirements, including WHMIS. Ask our team for product specifications or cylinder information needed for your order. Before collecting cylinders, confirm the handling and transport arrangements required for your pickup.

Been going here for my welding gases and automotive grade nitrous for over a year now. I switched from the large gas chains to them. Not only am I saving money now on all my gases and tanks, but their customer service is top notch. They fill nitrous bottles fast on the spot and have mother tanks available if that's what you prefer. They even stayed past their closing time to help me recover, repair a leak, and refil my automotive NOS bottles one day when I came close to closing. Can't thank or recommend them enough, no large gas chain provides that level of customer service Rob TaubmannTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
