Our Scarborough facility provides cylinder refills and exchanges, with pickup and delivery options for local welders.

Gas Supply For Welding Shops

Running MIG and TIG equipment in the same shop can mean keeping several gases on hand. We supply individual cylinders and recurring orders for businesses using different welding processes. Whether you replace a cylinder occasionally or need several delivered each week, talk to us about available sizes and replenishment arrangements.

Welding Gases We Supply

Gases For Different Welding Applications

MIG welding

For mild-steel MIG welding, common shielding gases include CO₂ and argon/CO₂ mixtures. The welding mode matters: a mixture used for short-circuit welding may differ from one specified for spray or pulsed welding.

We supply pure CO₂, C25 and C10 for the processes that call for them. When ordering for a new machine or changing wire, check the gas recommendation in the equipment instructions and consumable data sheet.

TIG welding

TIG welding, also called gas tungsten arc welding or GTAW, commonly uses pure argon. The shielding gas protects the tungsten electrode and molten weld pool from the surrounding air.

Argon is used for TIG welding of steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Some procedures specify an argon/helium mixture. Keep the TIG gas specification separate from any argon/CO₂ mixture used for steel MIG work.

Stainless steel and aluminum welding

Stainless-steel TIG welding commonly uses argon. Stainless-steel MIG welding requires a suitable shielding mixture selected for the wire and welding mode.

Aluminum MIG welding commonly uses pure argon, with argon/helium mixtures used for certain applications. When switching between metals on a multiprocess machine, check the gas requirement for each task. A mixture intended for mild-steel MIG welding may be unsuitable for the next material.

Oxy-acetylene welding and repair work

Oxy-acetylene equipment uses oxygen and acetylene to produce the welding flame. The gases also support brazing, heating and cutting when used with equipment designed for those tasks. We supply both gases, so you can include your torch requirements in the same order as your shielding gases.

Request A Quote For Welding Gas Supply

Contact Welders Supply & Gases with your required gas or mixture, cylinder quantity and location. Let us know whether you need a refill, an exchange or a new cylinder, and whether you prefer pickup or delivery. Our team will check availability and prepare a quote.

Choosing The Right Welding Gas

Start with the process and the metal you are welding. For wire-fed welding, the wire classification and selected welding mode help determine the required shielding gas. A machine capable of several processes may need different gases for each one.

Once the gas is specified, consider how much you use and how often you can arrange replenishment. Include your current cylinder size when requesting a quote. A photograph of the cylinder label can also help identify the gas or mixture you have been ordering.

For work that specifies a particular gas grade or requires supporting documentation, mention those requirements before placing the order.

Choosing The Right Welding Gas

Which Gas Is Used For Each Welding Process?

Use the table below to prepare your inquiry. The gas you order should match your welding procedure, consumable requirements and equipment specifications.

Welding Process Commonly Used Gas
MIG welding of mild steel CO₂ or an argon/CO₂ mixture matched to the wire and welding mode
TIG welding of steel, stainless steel or aluminum Pure argon; argon/helium mixtures for selected applications
MIG welding of aluminum Pure argon or an appropriate argon/helium mixture
MIG welding of stainless steel A stainless-specific shielding mixture suited to the wire and equipment
Gas-shielded flux-cored welding CO₂ or an approved shielding mixture, as specified for the wire
Oxy-acetylene welding Oxygen and acetylene

Welding Gas Cylinders & Supply Options

1

Cylinder purchase and rental

We supply welding gas cylinders for purchase or rental. Available argon and MIG-mix cylinder capacities include 20, 40, 60, 125 and 300 cubic feet. Confirm the gas and size required when ordering, as availability can differ between products.

2

Cylinder refills and exchanges

Refill and exchange services are available at our Scarborough facility. For a cylinder you have not brought to us before, call with its size, gas type and ownership details. Our team can confirm the available service before you visit.

3

Recurring orders and business accounts

Businesses using several welding gases can include them in one supply enquiry. Ask about a business account and delivery arrangements for regular orders. Your usual cylinder quantities and reorder frequency will help us prepare pricing for the supply you need.

Gas Quality, Cylinder Information & Safety

Check the cylinder label to identify its contents. Cylinder colour alone should not be used to identify a gas. Read the Safety Data Sheet for the gas or mixture, and follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and applicable workplace requirements, including WHMIS. Ask our team for product specifications or cylinder information needed for your order. Before collecting cylinders, confirm the handling and transport arrangements required for your pickup.

FAQs

What gases do you supply for welding?

We supply pure argon, CO₂, argon/CO₂ mixtures, helium and argon/helium blends for relevant welding processes. Oxygen and acetylene are available for oxy-acetylene work. Tell us the gas or mixture specified for your process, and we can confirm cylinder options, availability and pickup or delivery arrangements.

The gas depends on the metal and welding mode. Mild-steel MIG commonly uses CO₂ or an argon/CO₂ mixture. Aluminum MIG commonly uses pure argon, while stainless-steel MIG requires a suitable stainless-specific mixture. Follow the recommendation for your wire and equipment when selecting a gas.

Pure argon is commonly used for TIG welding of steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Some applications use an argon/helium mixture. Provide the gas specification from your welding procedure when ordering, particularly where the work requires a certain blend or purity grade.

Argon/CO₂ mixtures are used as shielding gases in specified steel welding processes. We supply C25 and C10, which contain different proportions of CO₂. These blends affect the arc and weld differently, so order the composition required for your welding mode and wire rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Our argon and MIG-mix range includes capacities such as 20, 40, 60, 125 and 300 cubic feet. Other gases have their own cylinder options. Tell us the gas you need and your current cylinder size so we can confirm an available purchase, rental or refill option.

Refill and exchange services are available, subject to the cylinder being suitable for the service. Call with the gas type, cylinder size and ownership details before your first visit. For a rented cylinder, check the ownership agreement before arranging service through a different supplier.

Yes. We deliver to welding shops and other businesses across Toronto and the GTA, including Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill and Newmarket. Send your address and required gases when requesting a quote. For recurring supply, include your usual order quantities and preferred receiving hours.

Pricing depends on the gas or mixture, cylinder capacity and whether you are purchasing, renting, refilling or exchanging a cylinder. Delivery requirements also affect the quote. Send your gas specification and cylinder details for current pricing, including the supply arrangement you need.
